PINCH::DJ (Bristol, England)
Tectonic, 'earwax
Photobucket
Unofficial King of the Bristol dubstep scene. Phenomenal producer, international DJ, founder of the Tectonic and Earwax labels and host of the Subloaded and Dubloaded dances. As a producer, Pinch has released critically acclaimed records on some of the most important dubstep imprints, including Planet Mu, Soul Jazz and of coarse his own Tectonic label. Pinch is arguably the most important tastemaker in UK's vibrant dubstep community. Two of Tectonic's most celebrated artists (2562 and Martyn) have gone on to become two of the more influential dubstep producers outside of the UK.

DJG::DJ (San Francisco)
NarcoHz / Noppa / Tube10 / Lo Dubs

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Dean J. Grenier A.K.A DJG landed in the world of Dubstep in 2007 with his first 12" "Shadow Skanking" b/w "Joyful Sound" on Narco.Hz. Immediate support on Rinse FM and in the clubs from DJ's like N-Type propelled DJG to the forefront of American dubstep producers early in his career. High-profile releases continued in 2008 with his track "Lower 8" released on Tes La Rok's Noppa label, and with his track "Bender”s selection as Pressing Issues 002 by the populace on dubstepforum.com. In total, DJG had 5 releases in his first year as a dubstep producer.
DJG's production style is richly melodic, emotive while full of groove and energy. Recognized early on for a more dubwise sound, DJG's recent productions have revealed an evolution in his music, getting deeper into bass-heavy, tech-drenched, soulful tracks like the much-anticipated February ‘09 release "Bunker" b/w "Apophenia" on Tube10 and the forthcoming "The Gate" b/w "Obsessed" on Lo Dubs. DJs ranging from Mary Anne Hobbs, N-Type, Joe Nice, Pinch, Headhunter, Skream, RSD, 2562, Djunya, Random Trio and many more have been supporting DJG's recent and forthcoming releases on labels Narco.Hz, Subway Recordings, Tube10, Lo Dubs, amongst others.

MOLDY::DJ (Portland, Maine)
Heavy Pressure / 'earwax

Fundamentally bass-heavy, dark and meditative, the dubstep sound can be described as a virulent musical strain.* Seasoned listeners of everything from dub reggae, hip hop and jazz to jungle, techno and breakbeat have been infected. Portland, Maine native DJ and producer Selector Moldy is operating on the frontline. A veteran DJ of over a decade, in 1998 he pioneered 24/7 internet radio with Factory188.com in Portland, Maine.* In Boston, he cut his teeth playing dubs of his original productions at the mainstay Elements; in New York City, he held residencies at the Offshore Recordings’ party Push and staple Konkrete Jungle.* He is a frequent guest at New York's legendary monthly Dub War. Organizing a series of parties in Manhattan called Lurkery, he introduced the Big Apple to talent from the UK like DJ Pinch, DJ Distance and Headhunter as well as domestic talent like Grapes and Venez.* Each event garnered an editor's pick in Time Out New York.* Bringing it full circle in 2008, he established the first regular night dedicated to the dubstep sound in Portland, Maine: Heavy Pressure Night.
Moldy has shared the stage with influential drum & bass and dubstep artists including Adam F, Breakage, Digital, Dara, Dieselboy, Pinch, Distance, Headhunter,, N-Type, Mala, Quest, Silkie, Plastician, Skream, and The Bomb Squad
Between gigs he keeps his nose to the grindstone in the studio, recognized internationally as one of the most prominent American dubstep producers. In 2006 he formed Heavy Pressure Recordings.* His Windmill Dub/The Black Forest (Part 1) was released in December 2006, followed by Grapes' The Sheep of Lords/Rabbit Stew in May 2007.* Moldy's highly anticipated Cod & Chips/Numbers Dub will see vinyl release in 2008, distributed worldwide by Load Media. Released March 2008 on UK label ‘Earwax, Glory/Glory Dub (EAR006), featuring Brooklyn based Dub War resident MC Juakali, has been smacking dance-floors in the US and UK alike, with support from UK DJs Pinch, Distance, Joker, Peverelist, Plastician, Cyrus, and Baltimore’s DJ Joe Nice. Forthcoming on Deep Medi Musik, Through the Rain and The Void are two tracks bound to make an impression as the first American releases on this lauded UK label. No dance floor is safe.

KJ SAWKA::Live (Seattle)

10 years ago -when drum n'bass was very near it's zenith in popularity, Kevin Sawka was playing in prominent rock bands in Seattle (grunge was huge)- someone played him an LTJ Bukem track, and, as he says, It scorched my brain. I dropped everything, and focused solely on how to recreate that on the drums.He heard Dieselboy as well. More brain-scorching. He started writing utilizing the style, and honed his new concepts and approach to the drums. He debuted the new sound in the band 94th Street, a band years ahead of it's time: a pop drum'n'bass band with a sense of humor.The word about Kevin was out: there's a drummer in Seattle who's performing jungle and drum'n'bass beats on acoustic drums, what was once thought to be absolutely impossible by any human. And here Kevin was making it look easy -like watching a jazz drummer who's said to play like water flowing,Kevin instead was doling out insanely syncopated d'n'b.

DOPELABS::DJ (Seattle)
Dubstep.fm / DubstepRecords.com
Photobucket
Since emerging in 1995, internet radio has revolutionized the broadcasting industry, bringing opportunities to new ideas and new music that otherwise would have no mass outlet. Many DJs and producers of emergent underground styles of music have embraced webcasting over the years by starting up internet radio stations and establishing shows in order to gain exposure for their sound and promote themselves as artists.
For dubstep, one such station is Dubstep.fm. At the helm is Dubstep DJ and internet radio champion, DopeLabs. Officially on the air since April 10th, 2007, Dubstep.fm is one of the only sites broadcasting dubstep at 192 kbps and boasts the highest average numbers of listeners as well as the most listeners at any one time for a dubstep web broadcast. DopeLabs has deep knowledge of the genre, deep record bins and even deeper sounds. Here is a vinyl DJ that has access to tracks from the global dubstep underground and can weave them to play off each other, shifting from movement to movement without ever losing any momentum.
